Michael has served as Director of Gynecologic Oncology Therapeutics for Kaiser Permanente Northern California since 2017. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School, followed by residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. In 1988, after completing a senior staff fellowship within the Medicine Branch of the National Cancer Institute, he joined the Department of Medical Oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia PA, where he remained for 21 years, serving as Vice President for Ambulatory Care and Clinical Research. In 2009, Michael joined the University of Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson as Professor and Division Chief for Hematology-Oncology. For more than 30 years, he has worked closely with the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG) and the GOG Foundation to support clinical research for women with gynecologic cancers, and mentorship for junior investigators, encompassing multiple roles including Chair of the Ovarian Committee for 8 years and Chair of the Developmental Therapeutics Committee for 11 years. He has also supported international collaboration through the Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup (GCIG), and is the current Chair Elect for GCIG, with his term to begin in 2024.
